My two oldest kiddos were off from school today so we hit the @usnwc for some big kid fun while little sister was at preschool. They got to do ropes courses, a zip line and rock climbing - there were some nerves, but fears were conquered and I loved seeing their confidence bloom after overcoming the challenge.

It was a beautiful night for week one of our spring fitness court series!

Our focus on squat, push and core movements helped build strength while bursts of cardio challenged aerobic capacity resulting in an effective workout for a variety of fitness levels. All with the added treat of a beautiful sunset 🌅

CT Sculpt is 7 🎉

I officially started CT Sculpt on March 12, 2018 with a mission to provide accessible fitness opportunities outside of a traditional gym environment to individuals of all fitness levels. Over the past 7 years I’ve had the privilege to work with so many amazing people to offer a variety of programming including personal training, pop-up sessions, neighborhood group workouts, virtual Zoom sessions, yoga collaborations, private small group workouts, mom and me workouts, run coaching, fitness court groups and more.

At times it can be challenging juggling family/mom life with business ownership, but I’m proud to say I feel good about the balance I’ve created and I’m grateful for every opportunity I have to share exercise and movement with individuals and my community.

To those of you who have been with me from the start, thank you! To those who’ve booked me for personal training, joined in on Zoom sessions during the pandemic or hired me for run coaching, thank you! To those who are new here, thank you! Whether you’ve shared my info, liked my social media posts or simply followed along, your support means so much 💪🏼👊🏼👏🏼

When you’re jogging uphill on stroller mile number 14 in the last 3 days and your kid says “are you even running right now?” 🐢🤣

Girl has some high expectations for her momma… meanwhile she’s relaxing to the max with a lollipop while jamming out to Frozen and Moana playlists 💀

Had a great conversation about running with one of my personal training clients this morning and this simple tip seems worth sharing ⬇️

If you’re someone who “wants to be a runner” but finds it tough to enjoy…

✨ try slowing down ✨

If you are new to running or returning after taking time off, it’s best to ease back in by keeping your efforts at a conversational pace, even if that means mixing in walk/run intervals. The goal is challenge yourself, but it shouldn’t feel grueling. Speed work has its place. But for beginners, logging miles, stacking days and consistently getting time on your feet is the key to building up your endurance.

So the next time you decide to lace up your running shoes, give yourself permission to slow down. You may find that you’re more likely to stick with it for the long run 😆

Weekend recap ⛰️💪🏼

We traveled to Banner Elk to spend the weekend in the Blue Ridge mountains, and while I didn’t have any specific plans for exercise, I knew movement would be included in some way. This time it was a 1.7 mile hike with the fam to Crab Orchard Falls (the kids loved it!) followed by a body weight workout on the back deck overlooking the mountains including step up, push ups, banded lateral steps, air squats and tri dips.

It doesn’t have to be complicated, something simple like a walk outside, a resistance band and a bench can go a long way!

I’ve been fully booked for early morning personal training sessions Monday-Friday, which leaves me only the days that Helen is at preschool to get any longer effort weekday running done. If you’ve been following me for a while it’s no surprise that I love an early morning sunrise run, but mid morning is what works best for me right now, and I certainly can’t complain about the blue skies and pretty views.

Pro Tip: schedule movement into your week as you would any other appointment and you’ll be much more likely to get your workouts done!

2024 Run Recap 🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏼

In 2024 I averaged 20 miles per week for a total of 1,226 miles, the most I’ve ever run in a single year!

I ran my 5th and second fastest marathon, my 14th and second fastest half marathon and logged miles in NC, SC, NY, TN and Spain.

My kids ran more 5Ks (2 for Mabel, 4 for Seymour) and we did our first family trail run. Of the 1,226 miles, 128 of them were pushing Helen in the stroller.

I coached some athletes to the finish line of their own races and learned a whole lot more as a run coach and business owner.

I bought and raced in my first pair of super shoes, shared miles with both old and new running buddies and organized a neighborhood fun run for the 6th year in a row.

I run because it makes me feel strong, it eases my mind, keeps me healthy and connects me with others in the running community. Looking ahead and excited for new run goals in 2025!

Loving this quiet moment after a whirlwind week filled with school performances, holiday shopping, new program planning, card delivering, teacher gift preparing, cookie baking and 5:30am client training sessions every morning…

While I’m truly grateful for all of these opportunities, I’m also looking forward to a chance to slow down, be fully present with my family this holiday season and head into 2025 feeling refreshed and recharged.

Shorts, a tank and bright sunnies… is it one week until Christmas or the middle of summer!? 😎

Felt sluggish starting out for this run, even contemplated cutting it short. But I found my groove about 2 miles in and managed to string together a nice 6 mile progression with a strong finish.

Sometimes all you need to do is get started and you just might surprise yourself 💪🏼👊🏼

Turner Kid Run Recap: we’ve had several running related events this past week and the kids have been getting in on the action too! So proud of all three of them and these awesome efforts…

👧🏼 On Saturday 12/7 Helen ran her first full mile at our neighborhood Jingle Jog event. She loved it and was very proud to be out of the stroller and running all by herself.

👱🏻‍♀️ On Sunday 12/8 Mabel completed her 2nd 5K with Girls on the Run bringing her total 5K tally up to 3. Christian ran alongside her on a beautiful morning and she met her goal of finishing the race.

👦🏼 Yesterday Seymour participated in his first Let Me Run event finishing with a time of 25:45 and earning a new PR by 8 seconds. This was his sixth 5K and he had some nerves at the start line, but loved the challenge and can’t wait for his next race.

Ran 6 stroller miles with Helen this morning bringing our total to just over 1,120 miles together.

It was chilly, but the sun was shining so I decided to drive to the Greenway for a flatter route and a change of scenery… packed up warm clothes, a stuffy, a blanket, snacks, water and streamed Helen’s current favorite soundtrack - Moana! She spotted a fawn, so we stopped to watch it for a bit and she proudly pointed out Niagara Falls and the Eiffel Tower along the route… who knew Charlotte was home to such iconic landmarks?! 😆

It’s snow time!

Went out for an easy paced 6 miler on snowy Syracuse roads before flying back to CLT this afternoon. The fresh fallen snow was beautiful, but even as a native upstate New Yorker I can honestly say I’ve now had my fill of snow for the season 😆

I know it’s cold in Charlotte this morning too, so here are two of my go to reminders for people who may struggle with motivation to get moving outside during the colder winter months…

1️⃣ The right gear makes all the difference. Wear tights, a moisture wicking long sleeve shirt, merino wool socks, gloves or mittens, a hat or headband for ear coverage and an additional outer layer like a jacket or vest if needed. I also like to wear sunglasses even if it’s cloudy to keep my eyes from watering. 2️⃣ A quick reframe can help you get started. My winter mantra, “it’s not cold, it’s invigorating!” puts a positive spin on the weather conditions and once you’re out there moving your body will warm up quickly.

Fun Fact: I’ve been an athlete my entire life, and a certified fitness professional for the past 6 years, but I had never been on a reformer machine until today!

This morning I had an opportunity to spend time with Dr. Crystal Myers at @meaningfulmovementpt and learn more about how she incorporates the reformer into treating her clients for a variety of needs. I was able to try out several movements and get a feel for how it works. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with me, Crystal 👏🏼

Half marathon #14

1:46:45 - a course PR by 38 seconds and my second best half marathon time 🎉

I fell short of a new PR by 1 minute and 45 seconds, but finished in the top 4% of my age group placing 9th out of 234 women - I’ll take it! 🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏼

The weather was perfect, the crowd support was great and the positive energy of 9,000 fellow runners kept me in my happy place despite the challenge of pushing through the discomfort. Always grateful for the opportunity to run another race! Thank you @charlottemarathon for organizing this event and bringing the fun racing energy to Charlotte 👏🏼

I don’t use this space for politics, but no matter the outcome of this election, there’s no denying that today will be a huge day for all Americans. It can be a lot to think about, comprehend and process.

Feeling grateful for the opportunity to start my day with some of the things I love… drinking hot coffee, training a new private small group and squeezing in a quick 3 mile run on this drizzly but refreshing morning.

I want to encourage everyone to focus on finding some form of self care today, whatever that might look like for you🧘🏻‍♀️🛀🏃🏼📚🌳✌🏼

Today we took our stroller miles up to Freedom Park for a nice little change of scenery. Running at here takes me back to our first couple of years in CLT when M and S were little. I’d run with the double BOB along Little Sugar Creek Greenway and they would play at the playground once we finished. Today was a similar routine… 3 miles with H then some strength and mobility work while she hit the playground 🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏼

Thought I would share two photos from today, because it was exceptionally beautiful out, and a few from the past, because I’m all in my feels about my kiddos growing up 🥹
